The Force That Holds Us Back – And How to Overcome It

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between someone who has what many would call a successful life versus someone who seems to be constantly struggling? I’ve wondered this many times myself. What factors really determine how far a person goes in life? After all don’t we all deserve to have a life filled with abundance? After doing a lot of reading, meeting different people from all walks of life, listening to audios, and experiencing this firsthand myself I have come to a realization what that factor is for many. Fear.

Fear is simply an illusion trying to hold us back from becoming what we really are meant to be. It is that belittling feeling where you question your capability. You start to wonder can I really do this? This doesn’t seem like the path for me. Someone must have made a mistake. Well, I am here to tell you that is all wrong. I truly believe that we are given in life not what we may ask for but what is meant for us.

Have you ever noticed how some opportunities that come to us are the rarest times but turn out to be a blessing or a life changing experience? Unfortunately sometimes Fear gets the best of us. And why does it, you may ask? What are we actually afraid of…?

Many things really, it is human nature to look at the negative things before you even notice the good. We are afraid to fail, to let others down, to embarrass ourselves, to try and be disappointed by not getting what we originally desired and dreamed for. But what if we could simply decide not to let Fear have control over us. We can! And yes it is that simple as just Deciding. Deciding that the desire to achieve something is far more greater than your fear wanting to control you.

You must condition yourself to break away from the limiting belief which is fear. That is really what Fear is; a belief. A belief that something atrocious will happen if you go on to take particular actions towards something. You must ask yourself what is it that I am afraid of? Why am I so afraid of this? What is the worst thing that will come from this?

Don’t let Fear, a mere illusion hold you back from fulfilling your ultimate destiny. Visualize what will be on the other side when you overcome that fear. The rewards will be immeasurable!

So next time you are to do a speech in front of hundreds, take on a new position at work, or are faced with a challenge of any kind, and that sensation of fear overcomes you, you know what you need to do. Take charge! Take control! And the world will open up to YOU.

Your Number One Hindrance to Living a Fulfilled Life

Have you ever woken up and realized that you haven’t achieved some of the goals that you dreamt about years ago?

Have you ever felt like you are not living your most fulfilled life?

Maybe at one point or another, you’ve looked back and you remember sometime in the past when you promised yourself that you would do something but you just couldn’t help yourself from coming up with one thousand and one reasons why you couldn’t or shouldn’t do it.

We all have moments like these but have you ever asked yourself what is really behind those moments that have brought friction to those dreams, visions, or goals?

If you’re thinking clearly, you won’t see any other thing behind those “I can’t” moments other than fear.

The truth is that fear is what everyone feels at one point or another whenever we are faced with making a decision that really isn’t in tandem with our comfort zone. But the question is – will you let these fears hinder you from living a fulfilled life?

Fear is a reaction of uncertainty. It is an emotion brought about by a perceived threat, which in the long run could result in withdrawal.

Fear is the ability to recognize danger ahead, with an urge to confront it or flee from it.

Fear typically produces a negative result. There are various factors that could hinder any victim of fear from living life to the fullest.

Lack of Trust

This is common when someone has betrayed your trust in the past. You will then find it difficult to cope when it comes to issues of loyalty. If someone lets you down, you might cut them completely out of your life to avoid having to face the fear again.

This is because you believe in fairness.

Also, lack of trust in oneself comes as a result of fear. The belief that one could fail when one embarks on a particular journey in life (marriage, business, project, etc.) comes under this factor.

All that is needed to be done – if in this category – is to believe strongly in yourself. Remember, you are the architect of your own destiny in life.

Inability to Love

This is nothing but a tragedy. It is expedient to know that a life without love is nothing.

Some people find it difficult to love because of past experiences or due to pathetic stories they have heard about love. More so, the death of a beloved spouse, partner or mate in the past creates a reluctance to love so deeply again.

That is why people go the extra mile to find happiness in place of love, which mostly brings about cases of pretense, deceit, and more, which would eventually result in denial and rejection.

The only solution is to allow yourself to love and be loved, and build empathy to increase your ability to connect more deeply.

Fear of Failure

This occurs as a result of incomplete for failed experiences in the past.

As a result of missing out on experiences, your soul will imbue you with curiosity in an effort to help you make up for lost time. You will seek out fact-based knowledge and see life as an opportunity to keep learning.

The fear that you may not achieve your life plan may result in feelings of anxiety (there is so much to do) or inertia (there is no point in starting what I may never have the chance to finish). Of course, this could make you lose life opportunities that come your way. So, it is better you stop being afraid of what could go wrong and focus on what could go right.

Feeling of Loss

The feeling of loss could bring about an underlying sense that “anything could happen,” (or that the worst can happen) and a lack of security about the future. You wouldn’t be encouraged to move forward in life as your favorite quote would be “The less I have, the less I have to lose.” So you wouldn’t bother about enriching your life and relationships, and really living life to the fullest.

This feeling might arise due to the fact that you have lost precious things or people in the past.

Overcoming this fear involves reconnecting with others to learn the importance of participation in life. You need to face life with boldness if you really want to live

Dealing With Fear

Fear itself is something to fear about on its own. “There is nothing to fear, but fear itself.”

Look back and imagine how your life would have been if you took up your fear in fierce battle and kick its ass to do everything you ever thought of doing, chase after all those lovely dreams you’ve had in the past, start that business that you’ve obsessed about for years, or even say that much needed “I love you” to someone you secretly and dearly love.

Take a minute right now, stop reading and imagine what your life might have been if you had never allowed fear to get the better of you.

Think back on years past – the opportunities you’ve missed, the road you’ve refused to take, the deal you’ve refused to say “yes” to just because you think someone is hiding somewhere to screw you and your money.

Whenever I look back at my life, I have lot of reasons to say “I wish” but the truth is that yesterday is gone and there is just nothing we can do about it. However, one thing we have going for us is the fact that yesterday ended the way it did in order to teach us a lesson in life: to do more, say more, and act more. Act more on what our fears have stopped us from doing in the past.

The good news is that today is right here staring cutely at you and all you can do to repay that kind of love that today is showing you is to step up, go out there, and shame the heck out of fear and its disguise of excuses such as self-doubt.

Anytime you look back again and see that nasty old friend of yours called fear, always remember this – life itself is a risk. Kick out your fear and start something now. It’s time to live your life.

Now Your Turn. In what ways have you allowed fear to become a hindrance to living your life to the fullest and how have you overcome those fears?

Let’s hear what you have to say, leave a comment in the box below.
